At St Thomas More, we believe that literacy and communication are key life skills. Through the English curriculum, children will develop the skills and knowledge to be able to communicate effectively and creatively through spoken and written language. Writing is taught across the curriculum as well as Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. Children are encouraged to write for ‘real’ purposes as well as in response to texts used within class.
At St Thomas More, we teach our children to write in a cursive script. As children progress into KS2 and develop their cursive presentation, they will work towards writing in pen and obtaining their ‘pen licence’.
At St Thomas More, we promote a love of reading, not just through reading schemes but also through high quality texts that are shared and read in class.
