The number grids have a number in each box. The idea is that your child writes the number that goes with that number to make either 10 or 20 (depending on what bonds they are learning).
For example, on the number bonds to 10 grid, if there is a 4 in the box, the number that goes with 4 to make 10 is 6, therefore, your child should write 6 in the box as 4 + 6 = 10.
On the number bonds to 10 grid, the number that goes with 4 to make 20 is 16, therefore, your child will simply write 16 in the box as 4 + 16 = 20.
On the times table grid, if the number in the box is 4 and your child is working on his/her 2 times table, he/she would write 8 in the box as 4 X 2 = 8.
We expect the children to try learn their number bonds to 10 and 20 and their times tables. If they can recall these number facts quickly, they use the facts they have learned to solve problems.
For example- 16 + 3 + 4 = ?
If they know their number bonds to 20, they should see immediately that 16 and 4 make 20 and then quickly count on 3 more to make 23.

If one jug holds 4 glasses of water, how many glasses of water will 3 jugs hold?
The following are examples of the type of grid they will be using in their number bonds or tables test each Wednesday.
Don’t forget to keep them on their toes and give them problems to solve and ask them questions to make sure they can still use the facts they have learned even if they have moved on to the next number bond or times table.
